Heritage Fair

Friday May 8, 2026

The Heritage Fair program invites students to discover Canada’s rich heritage and history through an engaging and student-centered learning experience.

Students choose a topic that interests them, develop a central inquiry question, conduct research, and present their findings in a format that suits their strengths and creativity.

Rooted in inquiry-based and cross-curricular learning, Heritage Fairs are flexible and can be tailored to fit the unique needs of your classroom. Most importantly, students have the opportunity to share their learning with classmates, families, and the wider community — making it a meaningful and memorable journey for everyone involved.

Three levels of Heritage Fairs

  • School Heritage Fair: Students begin by presenting their Heritage Fair projects at their own school.
  • Regional Heritage Fair: Outstanding projects from the school level are selected to advance to the Regional Heritage Fair. Here, students are interviewed by judges about their projects and take part in fun and engaging hands-on activities.
  • Provincial Heritage Fair: There will be no BC Provincial Heritage Fair this year due to a lack of funding. In the past, judges select three students from each Regional Fair to attend the Provincial Heritage Fair, a multi-day history camp held in a different BC city each year. The most recent was in Vancouver.

Each year, over 150 Richmond students present Heritage Fair projects on topics that draw from family heritage and local Richmond stories to regional, provincial and national history. Over 6000 students take part in Heritage Fairs across BC and thousands more across Canada.

The Heritage Fairs program is generously supported by the BC Heritage Fairs Society and Canada’s History.
